Let's Get Started
Please read all the instructions before getting started so you know exactly what we need. It will help avoid any edits or re-records. If you have any questions before getting started, or along the way, please reach out to Rob at firstname.lastname@example.org and he will help answer all your questions.
Occasions we are currently collecting Song Foundations for:
- Bat Mitzvah / Bar Mitzvah
- Father's Day
- Mother's Day
- Valentine's Day
The beauty about our song foundations is we can accept almost any genre. We currently offer Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic Pop, Rap / Hip-Hop, Folk, Country, Electro Pop, Pop Punk & R&B. If you want to make one outside of these genres, email email@example.com and we can discuss. We're always open to adding additional genres if it makes sense for our platform.
These tips will help increase your chances of selling songs because your songs can appeal to more people. There are a few things to keep in mind when writing and creating these choruses:
- Stick to the main theme of the occasion you are writing for (options above)
- Make the lyrics relatable, enjoyable and applicable to the masses
- Make the lyrics general - no super specific details
- Make the melody and lyrics catchy and meaningful
- Refrain from using religious references
- Avoid using terms that make the lyrics gender specific
- For wedding songs, it's okay to use terms "bride" or "husband" if you'd like but it may narrow the use cases down
3. LYRIC APPROVAL
Although not required because we trust that you can write an incredible song, we are more than happy to review your chorus lyrics before you record and give feedback to make sure you’re on the right track. Some find it super helpful knowing they are on the right track before recording and it also eliminates the need for edits. If interested, send these to firstname.lastname@example.org and he’ll send you his thoughts and feedback.
Keep the instrumentation true to the genre you are writing in. Also, keep the occasion in mind as that can heavily influence the production of the song you make. Try to have the instrumental change during the choruses and not a 4-8 bar loop for the entire song. You can build it during choruses or simply change the chord progression.
5. SONG STRUCTURE
This is very important. We will be displaying the full chorus and 10-20 seconds of the instrumental to the customers and they will choose which best fits them, their mood and their occasion (listen to how we display them here). However, for delivery to Songfinch, please send the full song. Target time for these songs is at least 2:30.
This is how we need the songs delivered to Songfinch structured:
- Instrumental Intro
- Personalized Verse 1 - no lyrics, just instrumentation & space for the lyrics
- Chorus - instrumentation & lyrics
- Personalized Verse 2 - no lyrics, just instrumentation & space for the lyrics
- Chorus - instrumentation & lyrics
- Personalized Bridge (optional)
- Chorus Repeat
- Instrumental Outro
6. ASSET DELIVERY
Please upload the song and assets to the song foundation tab on your Artist Dashboard. You can learn more on how to do that here.
We need the following delivered:
- Song foundation (Instrumental & Chorus)
- Typed out lyrics of chorus
7. SET YOUR SONG LIMIT
Along with your songs, it will be important to set and maintain your song limit. The limit indicates how many songs you are interested in making at one time. On average, these songs should take about 45-90 minutes to complete. If you realize that it takes shorter or longer than you thought, your limit can be adjusted anytime. When your capacity has been hit, we mark your song “Sold Out” so it can not be sold any longer until you deliver songs and your number drops below your limit.
It will be important to maintain your limit. For example, if you’re going out of town for a week to play some shows, we can set your limit at zero and your songs will not be available on our site for that time.
You can set your song limit in the "Edit Profile" section of your Artist Dashboard. You can learn how to set that here.
